Zulum Pays N4.5bn in Gratuities, Clears Backlog for Retired Borno Officials

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has disbursed N4.5 billion in gratuities and other entitlements to civil servants over the past year.

This was disclosed by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Dauda Iliya, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, where he outlined the administration’s achievements from 2024 to date.

Iliya stated that the Zulum administration has settled all outstanding gratuities and entitlements owed to retired Permanent Secretaries up to December 2024. According to him, a total of N1.49 billion was paid to the retired senior civil servants in December alone.

He further noted that the state government currently disburses N200 million monthly to cater to the needs of numerous retirees across Borno.

“The governor has pledged to clear all outstanding pensions and gratuities before the end of his tenure,” Iliya said, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

On post-conflict recovery efforts, Iliya revealed that the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Government and other partners, successfully repatriated 7,790 refugees from Baga Sola in Chad to Kukawa Local Government Area.

He added that similar exercises were conducted for refugees in Diffa and Bosso, Niger Republic, who have since returned to Malamfatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area.

“Each returnee received food and non-food items as part of their resettlement package,” he said.
