The Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Labour and Employment have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at addressing unemployment in Nigeria.

The agreement, formalised in Abuja on Tuesday, underscores the commitment of both ministries to creating job opportunities and equipping young Nigerians with essential skills.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, emphasised that the success of his ministry would be measured by its effectiveness in tackling unemployment. He explained that the collaboration would focus on job creation, skill development, and entrepreneurship through initiatives such as the Labour Employment and Entrepreneurship Programme (LEEP) and the Nigeria Youth Academy (NIYA) platform.

“By signing this MoU, we reaffirm our collective dedication to reducing unemployment, expanding economic opportunities, and securing a brighter future for Nigerian youth,” Olawande stated.

He further highlighted that integrating vocational training, technology, and mentorship would equip young people with the skills required to thrive in today’s economy.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, described the partnership as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s workforce and broadening employment prospects.

“This MoU represents a major milestone in reducing unemployment by creating more opportunities for skill development and job placements,” she said.

She also stressed that the initiative would provide meaningful employment across various sectors, contributing to national development.

Both ministries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing employment prospects, improving working conditions, and building a more adaptable workforce in Nigeria.
