The Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mr. Oluwaseun Faleye, has called for a sustained commitment to workplace safety across the country.
Faleye made this appeal on Monday in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Occupational Safety and Health Association of Nigeria (OSHA).
He underscored the need for heightened awareness and strict adherence to safety regulations to ensure safer work environments and protect employees nationwide.
According to him, continuous advocacy and training are essential to fostering a culture of safety in Nigeria’s workplaces.
“This approach not only promotes a strong safety culture but also safeguards workers, particularly through employee compensation schemes,” he stated.
Faleye stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to develop comprehensive training programmes and establish robust workplace safety standards.
Reaffirming NSITF’s commitment to enhancing health and safety initiatives, he urged all relevant bodies to work together to advance training and knowledge-sharing efforts.
“This partnership is crucial in advancing occupational safety and health initiatives. I appreciate your efforts in expanding awareness nationwide and your legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening safety regulations,” he added.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of OSHA Nigeria, Capt. Uwalaka Godbest, highlighted the association’s efforts in promoting health and safety across various organisations.
He noted that OSHA had introduced workplace safety protocols and designated OSHA desk officers in government ministries to ensure compliance and effective training.
Godbest emphasised the need for collaborative efforts, stating that recent workplace incidents in Nigeria underscored the urgency of joint training initiatives and stricter adherence to safety standards.
