Work-Life Balance Key to Productivity, NBCC Tells Executives

The Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) has encouraged business leaders to embrace a culture of fitness and work-life balance to enhance employee productivity and drive sustainable economic growth.

NBCC President, Ray Atelly, made the call in Lagos on Saturday during a health walk to commemorate the chamber’s 2025 Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Week.

Atelly described the event as a crucial initiative aimed at fostering a culture of safety, well-being, and environmental responsibility in workplaces and communities.

The NBCC recognises that a thriving economy is built on a healthy workforce and a sustainable environment. As industries evolve, the need for strong health and safety standards has become increasingly critical,” he said.

He urged participants to actively engage in discussions, exchange ideas, and embrace the insights shared during the week-long event.

Gbite Falade, Managing Director of Aradel Holdings Plc, stressed that health and safety should remain a core aspect of every organisation’s operations. He emphasised that even a simple 30-minute daily walk could significantly reduce health risks.

“Do not wait for circumstances to force you to exercise. Walking should be a habit for therapeutic, recreational, and preventive purposes,” he advised.

Joke Bakare, Managing Director of Medplus, underscored the importance of regular health check-ups, while NBCC Director-General, Dr Ebere Njoku, advocated a personalised approach to work-life balance tailored to individual needs.

Njoku noted that fitness activities among business professionals help reduce workplace stress, foster camaraderie, and improve overall well-being.

“Growing a business should not come at the expense of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. While focusing on your business, you must also prioritise your health to fully enjoy your success,” she added.
