Success Beyond Degrees: Coscharis CEO Challenges Graduates to Create Value

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, has urged graduating students of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, to translate their acquired knowledge into productivity.

Maduka delivered this advice on Wednesday while presenting the institution’s third convocation lecture, titled “Success is Not a Degree.”

“It is within your power to transform Nigeria from a land of potential into a land of reality. Use your education to drive economic growth, innovate technologies, develop cleaner energy sources, build ethical businesses, and become the leaders Nigeria desperately needs,” he stated.

Maduka emphasised that success is not defined by academic qualifications alone but by the value individuals contribute to society.

“True wealth is derived from the value you create and add to society. Many young people today chase wealth without focusing on value creation,” he noted.

He outlined key elements necessary for success, including skills, knowledge, execution ability, and resilience.

“Nobody attains success while remaining in their comfort zone. Success is a journey, not a destination. It is achieved through training, the right mindset, and persistence in adding value,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of credibility, integrity, competence, and character in achieving long-term success.

“To overcome obstacles, one must develop a relentless desire to excel. Every experience in life serves as a lesson, and self-education is crucial,” he remarked.

He advised the graduates to cultivate a positive mental attitude, have a clear vision, and take decisive actions towards their goals.

“In life, success is impossible without action. Vision without execution is merely a dream,” he concluded.

The Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Professor Clement Kolawole, described the selection of Dr. Maduka as convocation speaker as divinely inspired, citing his vast experience and achievements.

In his remarks, Mr Samuel Olatunji, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, expressed confidence that the graduates had been well-trained to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria and the global community.

Dr. Olufemi Oyisan, Chairman of the convocation ceremony, highlighted the institution’s commitment to equipping students with marketable skills, noting that skill acquisition had been integrated into the curriculum to enhance graduates’ employability.
