SSANU Decries Salary Delays, Warns of Labour Action

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has expressed serious concern over persistent delays in salary payments since the union’s migration from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to the Government Integrated Financial and Management Information System (GIFMIS).

In a letter to the Accountant General of the Federation, SSANU President, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, described the delays as discriminatory and demoralising.

He said university staff now receive salaries up to two weeks after other federal employees, a situation that has continued unabated.

“This is not just an administrative issue—it is a clear act of discrimination and a breach of the 2022 agreement between SSANU/NASU and the Federal Government,” Ibrahim wrote.

He warned that the issue threatens the fragile industrial harmony in the university system and could lead to further action if not addressed promptly.

“We call for urgent intervention to align university salary payments with the general federal schedule,” he added.
