The Federal Government has released N3.9 billion in arrears to 91,146 pensioners nationwide. The payment, completed on Friday in Abuja by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), follows the recent approval of a N32,000 pension increase by President Bola Tinubu. PTAD said the disbursement was undertaken to ensure that eligible retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme receive their outstanding entitlements without further delay.
Announcing the development, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communication, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi, said the payment was effected across all pension departments to support the welfare of retirees. He explained, in a statement, that the funds were allocated based on verified records and government approval.
According to him, “N1.9 billion was paid to 59,865 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department, while N830 million went to 12,976 pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department.”
He added that “another N620 million was disbursed to 9,689 pensioners in the Police Pension Department, and N551 million was paid to 8,616 pensioners under the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department.”
Speaking on the update, the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Mrs. Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to clearing all outstanding pension arrears. She said the move aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to safeguard the welfare of senior citizens.
Mrs. Odunaiya noted that the Directorate would continue to work closely with relevant agencies to ensure that pensioners receive their benefits as and when due.
