The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday announced that it will open the national recruitment portal for 50,000 new police constables on 15 December, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. The online portal, accessible nationwide, will close on 25 January 2026. The Commission said the recruitment aims to strengthen national security and provide qualified Nigerians with an opportunity to serve.
Announcing the exercise in Abuja, the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Mr. Torty Kalu, said all applications must be completed online via the official portal. He emphasised that the process will be free, transparent, and strictly merit-based to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected.
Mr. Kalu stated that applicants for the General Duty cadre must possess GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO, or an equivalent qualification with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
For the Specialists’ cadre, applicants must have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, alongside evidence of three years’ relevant experience and applicable Trade Tests.
He added that all applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. The age range for the General Duty category is 18 to 25 years, while Specialists must be between 18 and 28 years. Candidates must also be medically, physically, and psychologically fit, with minimum height requirements of 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women in the General Duty cadre.
Mr. Kalu said additional requirements would be posted on the portal when it becomes active on 15 December. He stressed that no applicant should pay any individual, warning that the Commission would not tolerate any form of fraud.
“The application is free, and we will conduct this recruitment in the most transparent and credible manner,” he said.
He confirmed that the application link will be available on the PSC recruitment portal as well as the official websites and social media platforms of both the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Kalu urged interested and qualified Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity, describing it as a chance to “serve the nation with commitment and patriotism.”
