The Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, has urged civil servants to prioritise efficiency and effective communication to improve public service delivery.
Speaking at the opening of a five-day training workshop for administrative staff in Lokoja on Monday, he lamented that inefficiency and poor communication continue to undermine productivity.
“The public service must rise to the demands of a modern Nigeria. We cannot afford inefficiency and poor communication, nor the gap that emerges when public servants fail to explain policies and programmes in ways that are accessible and persuasive,” he said.
Sadiq-Yelwa stressed that communication goes beyond speaking and writing, noting that it builds understanding, fosters teamwork and strengthens trust between government and communities.
He urged participants to use the workshop, themed Official Communication Skills in Public Service, to sharpen their listening, writing and speaking skills.
Director of Finance and Administration, Mr Jimoh Haruna-Gabi, expressed confidence that the 60 participants would uphold N-HYPPADEC’s values of professionalism and efficiency. He emphasised that continuous training was vital, warning that “failure to train leads to decline.”
