Plateau State Launches Training to Enhance Civil Servants’ Office Skills

A three-day training programme aimed at enhancing civil servants’ understanding of routine office procedures to improve service delivery across the state opened in Jos, the Plateau State Government capital on Monday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Jos on Monday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Samuel Jatau, described the initiative as timely and critical to strengthening public administration.

Jatau reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the continuous development and welfare of its workforce, pledging regular training and retraining to ensure optimal performance.

“The efficiency of any public service largely depends on the competence and discipline of its workforce, particularly Executive Officers, who serve as the backbone of daily operations,” he said.

He stressed that, although routine office procedures may seem basic, they are fundamental to effective governance, underpinning documentation, communication, file management, reporting, and service delivery.

“Without a solid understanding and consistent application of these procedures, even the best government policies risk failure during implementation,” Jatau added.

He further explained that the workshop was not merely a refresher course but a strategic capacity-building forum designed to sharpen skills, deepen knowledge, and instill a culture of excellence, discipline, and accountability within the public service.

Jatau reiterated the current administration’s commitment to building a result-oriented, people-centred civil service that could serve as a model for other states.

He called on civil servants to support the government’s reform agenda and encouraged them to leverage technology to enhance their knowledge and improve efficiency.

Earlier, the Head of the Civil Service, Mr. Stephen Godongs, noted that the training, organised in partnership with El-Jays Integrated Services, was aimed at promoting professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness within the Plateau State civil service.
