The Oyo State Government has launched a food subsidy scheme for its workers, providing access to essential food items such as bags of rice, vegetable oil, and chicken, in a move aimed at easing the impact of rising living costs during the December festive season.
The initiative was announced on Sunday in Ibadan by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said it reflects the state government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and food affordability.
Prince Oyelade explained that the N100 million scheme, driven by the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), is targeted at civil and public servants across the state.
“The intervention aligns with the welfare-driven agenda of the state government, aimed at improving the standard of living of workers,” he said.
He added that only workers who indicate interest and are properly collated by the accounts sections of their respective ministries will benefit from the scheme, a measure designed to ensure transparency and smooth implementation.
According to the commissioner, payments for the subsidised food items will be made through salary deductions beginning in February 2026.
“The arrangement is designed to ease the financial burden on workers while maintaining accountability,” Prince Oyelade said.
