The Oyo State Government has dismissed as false a message circulating among pensioners regarding a purported verification exercise, warning that it should be ignored.
In a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Professor Salihu Adelabu, said the fraudulent notice requested pensioners to submit photocopies of their pension certificates, bank details, and phone numbers to the ministry. He stressed that such information is never solicited through unofficial channels.
“The notice in circulation is completely false. Pensioners should disregard it and remain vigilant against misinformation targeted at retirees,” Adelabu said.
He explained that the ministry only contacts eligible pensioners when it is their turn to receive benefits, and that all official communication is conducted solely through recognised, credible channels.
The Commissioner urged pensioners to verify any suspicious message before taking action and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to retirees’ welfare.
“We will continue to uphold transparency and due process in all pension and gratuity matters,” he said.
Adelabu also appealed to the public to share only verified information, noting that protecting pensioners from fraud is a shared responsibility.
