More than 1,000 young people from across Edo State on Wednesday acquired practical skills, career direction, and business insights at the Jobberman Career Clinic held in Benin City. The one-day programme, organised by Jobberman Nigeria in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, was designed to help young people understand the realities of today’s labour market and position themselves for improved employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The clinic brought together job seekers, entrepreneurs, and career professionals for a full day of training, mentorship, and networking. Participants described the sessions as transformative, noting the value of expert engagement, keynote addresses, and hands-on breakout workshops.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Innih Ikhide, Head of Youth Engagement and Learning at Jobberman Nigeria, underscored the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving world of work.

“The world of work is changing rapidly, so clarity is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” he said.
“Life is 10 per cent what happens to you and 90 per cent how you respond. How you position yourself determines your next level.”

Keynote speaker and Founder of Genius Hub, Mrs. Isimeme Whyte, encouraged participants to think boldly and seize emerging opportunities.

“The calibre of young people I met here is inspiring,” she said.
“They are not waiting for handouts; they are hungry for knowledge, connections, and a fair chance. This generation has what it takes to redefine Nigeria’s future.”

Representing the Edo State Government, Managing Director of EdoJobs, Mr. Kerimu Kelly, commended the initiative and highlighted the potential for future collaboration.

“The government appreciates Jobberman’s efforts and hopes to collaborate next time to make the event even more robust, especially for marginalised youth,” Mr. Kelly said.

Participants attended breakout sessions on Interview Etiquette and Personal Branding, Entrepreneurship Development, and Digital Customer Engagement, facilitated by industry experts Ms. Esohe Idehen, Mr. John Iyoha, and Mr. Ibrahim Odion.

A high-level panel featuring Dr. Osayuwamen Aladeselu, Ms. Jobina Arinze, Ms. Kevwe Modupe, and Ms. Chika Ike-Ojukwu offered practical guidance on navigating the modern workplace. Many attendees described the panel as the highlight of the event.

A University of Benin graduate and young entrepreneur, Ms. Rejoice Aghoghore, said the training offered her much-needed clarity.
“I was unsure about my next steps after graduation, but the panel gave me clarity on promoting my business. I feel more confident about the path ahead,” she said.

Chairman of the Edo State Deaf People Association, Mr. Kingsley Eromesele, also praised the organisers for their commitment to inclusion.
“I was happy that persons with disabilities were considered,” he said.
“The sessions were accessible and valuable. I hope Jobberman continues to include us in future events.”
