The Ondo State Government has commenced a statewide verification exercise for pensioners covering the period between 2016 and 2025.
Chief Bunmi Alade, Permanent Secretary of the State Pension Transitional Department, announced on Friday that the exercise was designed to ensure accurate records, eliminate ghost pensioners and guarantee prompt payment of pensions and gratuities.
According to him, all affected pensioners are required to appear at designated centres with relevant documents, including their letter of retirement approval, payment voucher, Bank Verification Number (BVN), and pensioner’s identity card or any valid means of identification.
“For deceased pensioners, their next-of-kin or representatives must provide a Letter of Administration and an Affidavit of Next-of-Kin,” Alade explained.
The verification will be conducted in phases across the state’s 18 local government areas between 2 and 16 September. The exercise will begin with Ilaje, Okitipupa, Irele, Ese-Odo and Odigbo local government areas on 2–3 September before moving to other LGAs in scheduled batches.
Alade said the exercise would take place at local government headquarters or other agreed venues, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP). He emphasised that pensioners must appear in person as proxies would not be allowed.
He further assured that the government remained committed to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of senior citizens in the state.
