Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered over 10,000 nurses and midwives in the South-West with professional kits under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
The event, held in Akure, also featured the presentation of a N50 million cheque to the Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Esther Aiyedatiwa, to support the recapitalisation of 1,000 women petty traders.
Additionally, over 1,000 women in textile production across Ondo’s 18 local government areas received African wax prints to help expand their businesses.
“This complements the Federal Government’s retraining programme for 120,000 frontline health workers. So far, 60,470 have completed their training,” she said, adding that 10,000 branded scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs had been distributed in each of the five geopolitical zones, with the South-East next in line.
Senator Tinubu thanked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his wife for their warm hospitality and described the initiative as a vital step toward strengthening healthcare.
Governor Aiyedatiwa lauded the First Lady’s efforts, calling her a “national treasure” whose contributions would significantly improve maternal and child health.
“This gesture will raise morale among nurses and midwives and enhance the quality of healthcare in our region,” he said.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive governance and social development, highlighting ongoing programmes targeting women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
