The Ogun State chapter of the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP) has revealed that over 25% of its members have shut down operations in the past year due to an unfavourable business environment.

Mr. Babatunde Lawal, the Chairman of the association, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ota, Ogun State.

“The harsh operating conditions have forced many members to abandon the business for other ventures,” he said. “More than 25% of our members have exited the industry because the environment is not conducive for production.”

Lawal identified major challenges facing the industry, including unstable power supply, multiple taxation, and a lack of supportive government policies. He noted that many producers rely on generators, significantly increasing production costs and reducing profit margins.

“In addition, renewing operational licences, particularly with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has become increasingly difficult,” he added.

Lawal warned that the situation could lead to rising unemployment and economic hardship for many families. He appealed to the federal and state governments to create a more enabling business environment to prevent further job losses.
