NSITF, Katsina Government Strengthen Partnership on Workers’ Welfare

By Ann Okoroafor

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the Katsina State Government have pledged to deepen collaboration on workers’ protection and welfare.

Governor Umar Radda of Katsina made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NSITF, Barrister Olúwaeun Faleye, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Radda assured that his administration would support the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) to ensure adequate protection for workers in the state.

He explained that the visit was also aimed at assessing the performance of Barrister Samaila Abdul, an indigene of Katsina State, recently appointed as Executive Director, Administration, at the Fund.

“Today’s visit is part of my policy to engage with indigenes of Katsina State holding federal appointments to ensure they are effectively representing the state,” Radda said.

In his response, NSITF Managing Director, Barrister Faleye, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to promoting safer workplaces and enhancing productivity nationwide.

He noted that improved workers’ welfare directly translates into higher productivity and a stronger national economy.

Faleye, however, described as worrisome the low level of compliance with the Employees’ Compensation Scheme among some state and local governments.

He urged the Katsina State Government to ensure full participation in the scheme to safeguard workers and strengthen service delivery.

The NSITF chief reiterated the Fund’s resolve to build enduring partnerships that promote decent work, social protection, and sustainable employment across the country.
