Nigeria’s AI Leap: DBI Unveils Ambitious Training for 5 Million Workers

The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) has announced plans to train five million Nigerian workers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the next three years.

The President of DBI, Mr. David Daser, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja during the institute’s 21st anniversary celebration, themed “Preparing Today’s Workforce for Tomorrow’s Market.”

Daser called on federal, state and local government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to partner with DBI in ensuring Nigeria does not lag behind in the global AI revolution.

He said DBI was committed to positioning the country as a hub for AI innovation and training, working in collaboration with local and international partners.

“Our goal is to empower millions of Nigerians with AI skills that will drive economic growth, boost productivity, and enhance national competitiveness,” he said.

In his keynote address, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju—represented by Mr. Akintayo Bamise, Group Lead, Research Innovation and Skills—emphasised the urgency of re-skilling the workforce.

Quoting the World Economic Forum’s 2020 Future of Jobs Report, he said that by 2025, half of all employees would require re-skilling due to technological advancements.

“In the ICT sector, this figure is even higher due to rapid automation and emerging cybersecurity threats,” he noted.

Adeyanju warned that without action, innovation might outpace implementation, turning human talent into a bottleneck rather than a driver of progress.

He stressed that digital literacy was now the minimum requirement for participation in the global economy and advocated lifelong learning as the new standard for workplace competence.

Also delivering a goodwill message, Mr. Evelyn Lewis, CEO of US-based software firm SBTS Group LLC, praised DBI’s resilience and growth. He highlighted the institute’s expanding digital training offerings, including a new platform with over 800 courses for students.
