Eighty-six captains of the Nigerian Army on Monday began the 2025 Written Promotion Examination in Benin, Edo State.
The week-long examination, which runs from May 12 to 16, is being hosted by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST).
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Sunday, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Kevin Aligbe, who also serves as President of the Examination Board, commended the officers for reaching this stage of their careers.
He described the examination as a vital step toward greater responsibility and urged participants to approach it with discipline and professionalism.
“This examination is a cornerstone of the Army’s promotion process. It reflects our commitment to developing a professional, disciplined, and merit-based officer corps in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff,” Aligbe stated.
He warned against malpractice, noting that officers are allowed only three attempts at the promotion exam.
“If you’ve prepared well, you have nothing to fear. We expect a 100% success rate and will not tolerate cheating, collusion, or any breach of examination security,” he said.
He added that the top three performers would be recognised with awards, commendation letters, and cash prizes.
“We want to see you all succeed. The marking process will be fair, transparent, and strictly based on merit,” he assured.
Also speaking, the Commandant of NASST, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, welcomed the candidates and expressed pride in hosting the examination.
“This marks a critical milestone in your professional development. You have completed a rigorous one-month preparatory course, including a mock exam. We expect you to perform excellently,” Adegbite said.
He also advised participants to prioritise personal security during their stay in Benin.
“Remain vigilant. Avoid unnecessary movement, travel in pairs, and always be security conscious,” he cautioned.
