Nigeria Customs Denies Fake CBT Shortlist for 2025 Recruitment

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has debunked a fake press release circulating on social media claiming that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) shortlist for its 2025 recruitment has been released.

In an official statement on Sunday, the Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, described the document as “fraudulent and misleading,” stressing that it did not originate from the Service.

“The NCS wishes to categorically state that the said press release is fraudulent, misleading, and did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service,” Maiwada said.

According to the Customs spokesperson, the forged document contained clear signs of manipulation, including poor formatting and a fake electronic signature inconsistent with the NCS’s official communication.

He also noted that the timeline mentioned in the fake notice did not align with any legitimate recruitment schedule.

Maiwada reiterated that the NCS announces all recruitment updates exclusively through verified platforms—including the official website, authorised social media accounts, and recognised national newspapers. He urged the public to avoid engaging with or sharing unverified information, particularly via WhatsApp and other messaging platforms.

He added that the NCS is actively working to identify the source of the fake announcement and will pursue legal action against those responsible.

“The NCS deeply appreciates the vigilance of concerned Nigerians. We reaffirm our commitment to protecting the public from misinformation and upholding transparency and integrity in all our operations,” he said.

The NCS had opened its recruitment portal in December 2024 for applications into the Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. This followed federal government approval for the recruitment of 3,927 new officers in 2025 as part of efforts to boost trade facilitation and support economic recovery.

At the time, Customs warned prospective applicants to beware of fraudsters attempting to exploit the recruitment exercise.
