Nigeria, Amazon Launch Free Digital Skills Training for Tertiary Institutions

In a major push to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide and build 21st-century workforce capacity, the Federal Ministry of Education has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch a free digital skills training and certification programme across the country’s tertiary institutions.

Announced via the Ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s drive under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to equip both students and educators with in-demand tech and digital skills.

The programme offers training in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and other emerging technologies—at no cost to participants. All certification fees will be fully covered by AWS and the Ministry, ensuring access regardless of financial background.

Already operational in 43 federal universities and polytechnics, the initiative is now being expanded to state and private tertiary institutions nationwide.

The Ministry has called on Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of private and state-owned tertiary institutions to nominate and register designated coordinators by Friday, 19 July 2025, to facilitate swift onboarding.

“This is a critical opportunity to empower Nigerian youth with globally competitive digital skills. We urge all eligible institutions not to miss out,” the Ministry stated.

The collaboration demonstrates the government’s commitment to building a digitally skilled workforce and boosting employment prospects through access to global certifications.
