The Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation (CALMHAF) has unveiled a new wellness initiative to address stress, anxiety, and stigma in Nigerian workplaces.
The programme, ThriveNaija Wellness, was launched in Enugu on Thursday by the foundation’s co-founder, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwachukwu. She explained that it is designed to improve employee well-being, productivity, and organisational health at a time of economic uncertainty.
Speaking at a media briefing, Nwachukwu said the initiative provides a holistic, evidence-based approach to workplace mental health, combining World Health Organisation (WHO)-endorsed relaxation techniques, professional counselling, mindfulness sessions, and stress management tools.
She noted that Nigerian workers are facing unprecedented psychological pressure, with 36 per cent reporting regular stress, while only about 150 certified psychologists currently serve a population of more than 200 million.
According to her, the ThriveNaija programme targets high-stress industries such as banking, telecommunications, healthcare, and technology, helping employees manage decision fatigue, emotional overload, and customer service pressures.
“The programme boosts productivity by up to 20 per cent, reduces absenteeism, and strengthens team cohesion through workshops on emotional intelligence, decision-making, and team-building,” Nwachukwu said.
She added that ThriveNaija offers flexible delivery formats, ranging from virtual sessions to in-person luxury retreats, customised to address sector-specific stressors such as regulatory burdens and the isolation of remote work. For entrepreneurs and remote workers, the programme provides tailored support to prevent burnout, work-life imbalance, and emotional fatigue.
Nwachukwu further stated that ThriveNaija enables organisations to position themselves as “Mental Health Champions”, thereby reducing stigma and promoting psychologically safe workplaces.
“The majority of Nigeria’s workforce operates under intense psychological strain daily. This programme provides structured workplace support systems to restore balance, resilience, and emotional strength,” she said.
