The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has praised the Federal Government for appointing a chairman for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), describing it as a step towards strengthening the institution and achieving its objectives.
In a statement on Tuesday, NECA’s Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, said, “The success of any scheme or project depends on a strong governance structure.”
He added that appointing a chairman would enhance NHIA’s operational effectiveness.
Oyerinde further urged the government to expedite the appointment of board members for other key agencies, including the Pension Commission and the National Directorate of Employment, in line with their enabling acts. He stressed that while management plays a crucial role, it cannot replace the oversight and governance that boards provide.
“Beyond inaugurating the boards, strategic mechanisms must ensure they function as intended rather than merely approving management decisions,” he added.
