NDLEA Opens Vision Centre to Boost Staff Welfare, Partners Optometrists

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Vision Centre at the agency’s national headquarters annex in Abuja. This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance staff welfare and morale.

Describing the centre as the product of a strategic partnership, Marwa acknowledged the collaboration between the NDLEA, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. He commended the NOA and its partners for extending this “vital collaboration” to the agency.

According to Marwa, the centre will offer comprehensive, affordable, and high-quality eye care services to NDLEA personnel and members of the public. Drawing from personal experience, he underscored the importance of regular eye checkups, noting that good vision contributes significantly to productivity and quality of life. He also praised the volunteer optometrists managing the centre, recognising their commitment and pioneering efforts.

“This centre adds to our various initiatives aimed at promoting the wellbeing of our workforce,” Marwa said.

The President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr Chimeziri Anderson, described the project as a product of deliberate and result-driven collaboration. He recounted that the idea was first proposed during a meeting in Lagos and commended the NDLEA leadership for embracing and supporting the initiative.

“This vision centre is among the few established within government institutions and serves as a model for sustainable eye care delivery,” Anderson stated. With backing from partners in France and Dubai, the facility boasts world-class equipment and services, ensuring NDLEA staff and their families have access to premium eye care.

In his remarks, Director of Medical Services at NDLEA, Dr. Audu Okpe, described the centre’s inauguration as a milestone in the agency’s growing commitment to staff welfare. He emphasised its broader significance in fostering partnerships between security institutions and medical professionals.
