The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Wednesday embarked on a nationwide strike over unresolved disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a circular signed by Acting General Secretary Dominic Igwebike, the union directed members to withdraw their services indefinitely until TCN addresses long-standing welfare and operational grievances.
The strike followed the expiration of an ultimatum to TCN, which the union accused of neglecting demands on staff welfare, provision of tools, and respect for labour rights.
“Unfortunately, TCN management has decided to handle these issues with kid gloves and disregard for its hardworking staff,” NUEE said.
The union’s demands include implementation of the national minimum wage; an end to the casualisation of workers; provision of tools and operational vehicles; payment of outstanding salaries since April 2025; supply of Personal Protective Equipment, last issued in 2021; and settlement of retirement benefits.
The strike directive, which took immediate effect, mandated “total compliance” by electricity workers nationwide.
This is not the first industrial action by NUEE. In June 2024, it embarked on a strike that crippled power supply in several states, forcing emergency negotiations with the Federal Government
