The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the State Bureau for Pension Administration to ensure fairness and objectivity in the disbursement of gratuity to pensioners across the state.
The call was made on Tuesday in Lafia when the bureau’s management appeared before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for the review of its second-quarter budget performance.
Chairman of the committee, Hudu Alhaji, stressed that pensioners must be treated with dignity and equity, warning against favouritism in payments.
“I want to urge you to be fair and objective in the disbursement of gratuity to pensioners. You should not be selective in the payment of gratuity, as pensioners should be treated equally, having served the state meritoriously. Payment of gratuity should not be on the basis of who you know,” he said.
Alhaji commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritising the welfare of pensioners but appealed for more efforts to improve gratuity payments in the state. He assured that the House would continue working closely with the government to bring greater relief to retired workers.
In his remarks, Mr. Adams Gani, Director of Finance and Administration at the bureau, expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for his support to the agency. He also thanked the committee for its cooperation, while appealing for increased funding to enable the bureau clear outstanding gratuity payments to pensioners.
