The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has urged the state government to approve the recruitment of more graduates into the state civil service.
Mr Solomon Akwashiki, Chairman of the Committee, made the appeal on Wednesday in Lafia during a first-quarter 2025 budget assessment session with the management of the Civil Service Commission and the Head of Service.
Akwashiki said employing more graduates would help reduce unemployment and foster development across the state.
“I appeal to the governor to consider filling existing vacancies in the state civil service, especially as a significant number of personnel have retired, leaving critical gaps in the system.
“There are many qualified graduates who, if given the opportunity, can add substantial value to the state,” he said.
The committee chairman also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritising the welfare of civil servants and assured the Assembly’s continued support for the Commission and the Head of Service.
Earlier, Alhaji Musa Dangana, Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, thanked the committee for its dedication to improving workers’ welfare. He also praised the leadership of Mr Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the State Assembly.
In her remarks, Head of Service Abigail Waya expressed appreciation for the committee’s sustained support and pledged to introduce new policies and programmes that would directly benefit civil servants in the state.
