Minimum Wage: Nasarawa Speaker Begs Assembly Workers to Halt Strike

Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Danladi Jatau, has appealed to the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Nasarawa State chapter, to suspend its planned strike action scheduled for April 16.

The proposed strike stems from the State Government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage.

Jatau made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday in Lafia by his Press Secretary, Mr. Jibrin Gwamna.

He assured PASAN members that the issue would be resolved promptly, describing Governor Abdullahi Sule as a listening leader who is committed to the welfare of workers.

Representing the Kokona West Constituency, Jatau urged PASAN members to exercise patience, stating that efforts were underway to ensure payment of the minimum wage.

“The matter of minimum wage is a constitutional right, and the Assembly staff will not be denied what is rightfully theirs,” he said.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to creating a conducive working environment and promoting the welfare of its workforce.

Earlier, on 10 April, PASAN had declared its intention to embark on an indefinite strike over the State Government’s delay in implementing the N70,000 national minimum wage. The decision was taken during a congress held at the State Assembly complex in Lafia.
