Lagos to Begin Verification of Parastatal Pensioners

The Lagos State Parastatal Monitoring Office (PMO) is set to launch a pilot verification exercise for pensioners in state-owned parastatals, agencies, and companies with independent hiring powers.

The Permanent Secretary of the PMO, Mrs. Adetutu Ososanya, announced the initiative during a ministerial press briefing held at the Baguda Kalto Press Centre in Alausa to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in his current term.

Ososanya explained that the verification exercise is aimed at improving transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in pension administration, especially with regard to data updates and payment systems.

“This pilot scheme is a proactive measure to sanitise the pension system,” she said.

“We want to ensure that only duly qualified pensioners receive government funds and that our records remain accurate and up to date. Our goal is to make life easier for those who have served the state.”

She disclosed that, within the reporting period, the PMO conducted 36 working visits and on-the-spot assessments of various parastatals, agencies, and state enterprises to identify operational challenges and provide practical solutions.

“These visits are aligned with the THEMES Plus development agenda and aim to enhance service delivery and ensure compliance with financial regulations,” she said.

Ososanya added that the PMO had also continued its routine inspections of financial and operational records across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure adherence to evolving administrative standards.

The enabling laws governing the 102 MDAs in the Lagos State civil service have undergone periodic reviews in recent years to bring them in line with modern practices.
