The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Muhammadu Dingyadi, to explain the delay in inaugurating the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
The summons follows a petition filed by the Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), and the Advancement of Social Justice and Economic Development Initiative (ASJEDI) in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Mike Etabo (APC-Cross River), stated that the minister must appear in person to address the concerns raised in the petition.
He further directed the Managing Director of NSITF, Mr. Faleye Mayomi, to appear before the Committee to respond to allegations of violating project clearance regulations.
According to Etabo, the petitioners claim that President Bola Tinubu has appointed a managing director for the fund but has yet to name and inaugurate a board several months later.
They argue that this omission is an aberration, as the absence of a board has led to various irregularities in the organisation’s operations.
“Our duty is to serve Nigerians efficiently and ensure due process is always followed. Summoning the Minister and the NSITF CEO will allow them to clarify the situation.
“The government is being accused of neglecting this crucial matter, and it is only proper that the minister provides clarity,” he stated.
