The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the discrepancies found in the February salaries of civil servants.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Monday, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, disclosed that Governor Abba Yusuf had set up a committee to investigate salary deductions, underpayment, and non-payment issues affecting workers in the state.
According to Ibrahim, the committee has submitted its report to the governor, who is currently reviewing its findings.
“The governor is carefully studying the report to determine the next course of action. To prevent future occurrences, collaboration between ministries and agencies has been strengthened to ensure timely and accurate salary payments,” he said.
To enhance transparency, a coordinating committee led by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, alongside eight other members, has been established to oversee the payment of March salaries.
Ibrahim further explained that, as part of measures to ensure accuracy, salary payments will be printed and submitted to ministries for scrutiny and verification by civil servants before disbursement.
He also noted that civil servants who have not received salaries for four months must provide valid reasons for their absence during the 2024 verification exercise before they can receive payment.
“The state government is committed to prudent and efficient salary payments while prioritising the welfare of its workforce,” he said.
