Kano Recovers ₦28m Paid to Retired and Deceased Workers

The Kano State Government has recovered ₦27,824,395.40 in fraudulent salary payments made to 247 individuals who were either retired or deceased.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano by Musa Tanko, Information Officer in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Tanko explained that the irregularities were discovered during a salary validation exercise conducted by the Pay Parade Committee.

He confirmed that the full amount had been recovered and returned to the Local Government Treasury.

“The government remains resolute in its commitment to sanitise the payroll system and bring those responsible for these irregularities to justice,” he said.

Tanko added that the committee would soon begin full operations involving all relevant stakeholders, with the aim of conducting a comprehensive audit of the entire payroll structure.

Further investigations, he noted, would be carried out to assess the extent of the fraud and identify those behind it.

“Anyone found to be involved will be held accountable in line with the law,” he added.
