The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to recruit 9,000 additional health workers over the next five years to strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
The State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this on Sunday in Kaduna during a one-day media engagement meeting organised by the Kaduna Contributory Health Insurance Authority (KADCHMA), in collaboration with Lafiya: UK–Nigeria Partnership for a Healthier Future.
Maiyaki said Governor Uba Sani had already approved the immediate recruitment of 1,800 health workers across various categories as part of the long-term plan.
“This no-mean feat will be replicated annually over the next five years to bolster the state’s health workforce,” he said.
He added that Governor Sani had prioritised the health sector since assuming office in 2023, treating healthcare as both a priority and a fundamental right.
“The governor is leaving no stone unturned to achieve this invaluable objective,” Maiyaki said.
He noted that the government has consistently maintained the state’s health budget above the national average of 15 per cent and has improved salaries for health workers.
“These better working conditions are already attracting more doctors and other professionals back to the state’s health system,” he said, adding that “Kaduna State is leading the 19 Northern States in this regard.”
Maiyaki called on journalists to support the government’s efforts by promoting health-seeking behaviour among residents.
