Kaduna Health Workers Told to Justify Salary Rise with Improved Service

By Mariam Aligbeh

Health workers in Kaduna State have been urged to demonstrate higher levels of dedication and professionalism following the recent increases in their salaries and improvements in welfare packages.

The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Prof. Bello Jamoh, made the call on Monday in Kaduna during a meeting with health secretaries, union leaders, and senior management staff of the agency.

Prof. Jamoh noted that the administration of Governor Uba Sani had made substantial investments in the health sector, including the upgrading of primary healthcare centres, the distribution of modern medical equipment, the recruitment of additional personnel, and a recent salary review for health workers.

“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said, urging health workers to redouble their efforts and demonstrate renewed commitment to duty.

He stressed that the government’s investment came with high expectations and warned that acts of inefficiency, laxity, or unprofessional conduct would no longer be tolerated. Prof. Jamoh also appealed to health workers to show empathy and compassion in their dealings with patients.

Responding, the Chairman of the Association of Health Secretaries across the 23 Local Government Areas, Dr. Yahuza Muhammad, commended Governor Sani for his “remarkable and unprecedented” achievements in the health sector. He pledged the association’s continued support for improved service delivery across the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Kaduna State chapter, Mr. Umar Fatika, applauded the government’s welfare initiatives, describing the salary increase as “historic.”

“Health workers in Kaduna have never had it this good,” Mr. Fatika said. “We are grateful to the governor and the board for prioritising our welfare, and we assure renewed zeal and total commitment to quality healthcare delivery.”
