Jigawa Disburses N1.5bn Pension to 569 Retirees, Hailed for Leading Pension Model in Nigeri

The Jigawa State Government has commenced the disbursement of over ₦1.5 billion in pension entitlements to 569 retirees, reinforcing its reputation as one of the leading states in pension administration in Nigeria.

Speaking at a formal flag-off ceremony held on Monday at the Pension House in Dutse, the state’s Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri, explained that the payments are being coordinated through the Local Government Contributory Pensions Board.

He emphasised that Jigawa’s pension model has earned nationwide recognition, attracting delegations from over 20 states that have visited to study the state’s transparent and structured approach to pension administration.

Dagaceri commended Governor Umar Namadi for his unwavering support for the scheme, describing the governor’s commitment as instrumental to the sustainability and continued credibility of the pension system. He noted that this level of support has had a transformative impact not only on retirees but also on the morale and stability of the civil service.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Pensions Board, Dr. Binyaminu Shitu, stated that the amount being disbursed exceeds ₦1.5 billion and includes payments across various categories such as retirement benefits, death benefits, and death pension balances.

Providing further details, Shitu revealed that the 569 beneficiaries comprise 278 retired state civil servants, 158 local government retirees, and 124 former staff of the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

In terms of financial breakdown, ₦87 million is allocated to retirees from the state service, while local government pensioners will receive over ₦355.025 million. Beneficiaries from the LEAs are entitled to ₦274.798 million.

Shitu assured the retirees that the board remains fully committed to timely disbursement of all entitlements. He noted that monthly pensions continue to be paid within the first week of each month, further reinforcing the state’s reputation for pension reliability.

He added that the government is working actively to ensure that retirees can enjoy a secure and dignified life after years of service.
