The Imo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US-Mac, a United States-based digital marketing company, to enhance employment opportunities and drive the state’s digital economy.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking at the signing ceremony, emphasised that the partnership aims to transform Imo into an economic hub and a leading technology centre in Nigeria. The initiative is expected to generate 1,000 jobs annually, helping to curb youth restiveness and foster economic prosperity. It will also create opportunities for multinational companies and global organisations to collaborate with the state government.
Addressing guests at the brief ceremony at Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma stated that his administration had been committed to developing a digital economy since its inception. He highlighted the Skill-Up Imo Programme, which has already produced 40,000 graduates, many of whom are gainfully employed or have started their own businesses.
He expressed confidence that the MoU with US-Mac would accelerate the realisation of the state’s digital vision. He commended the company’s management and urged them to uphold the terms of the agreement, assuring them that the government would fulfil its obligations.
In his remarks, Mr. Chris Burry, who signed the agreement on behalf of US-Mac, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and pledged full commitment to its implementation. The Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu, signed on behalf of the Imo State Government.
Burry further disclosed that Imo State is also partnering with other renowned companies and organisations, including Cisco, Microsoft, Zinox Technologies, Konga, SP, and the European Union Digital SME Alliance, to expand digital opportunities for the state.
