The Enugu State Government has commenced the payment of gratuities to civil servants who retired in January, following Governor Peter Mbah’s directive.
The State’s Accountant General, Mr. Anthony Okenwa, confirmed the development to journalists in Enugu on Tuesday, stating that the payments were being made to retirees who had completed the biometric verification process mandated by the government.
Okenwa also noted that the backlog of gratuities dating from 2010 to 2024 had been put on hold for verification.
“Governor Peter Mbah is committed to clearing all outstanding pension and gratuity arrears. Retirees will receive their payments in instalments until all arrears are fully settled,” Okenwa stated.
He further assured that the backlog of gratuities for retirees from 2010 to 2024 would be disbursed progressively once the verification exercise is completed.
