Future of Work Must Be Human, Says CIPM

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has urged organisations to prioritise employee well-being, mental health, and resilience to ensure sustainable workforce development.

This call was made during the July 30 edition of the CIPM & YOU Series, a virtual forum that brought together HR experts, business leaders, and wellness professionals.

Opening the session, CIPM President Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir stressed the need to redefine modern work culture.

“The future of work must put humans first,” Gobir declared, calling for a shift away from glorifying overwork.

Keynote speaker Dr. Chidi Onyedika highlighted the link between mental well-being and productivity, advocating employee-focused insurance, fitness, and assistance programmes. He also warned against absenteeism caused by stress.

Other speakers, including Mrs. Salu Oyiza Ajuda of Polaris Bank and Mrs. Nkechi Juwah of Nigerian Breweries, stressed the importance of leave, clear job roles, and flexible work environments.

The session concluded with calls for organisations to replace toxic leadership with inclusive practices and empower employees through data-driven resilience programmes.

CIPM emphasised that businesses looking to succeed must embed well-being into their strategic priorities.
