FUOYE Lecturers Down Tools Over Unpaid Salaries

Lecturers at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have declared an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

The decision, announced on Thursday, was communicated in a letter to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu. The letter, signed by ASUU Branch Chairman, O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Ngwu Benitho, stated that the strike would continue until all outstanding salaries are paid.

The union explained that its action followed a directive from ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which ordered any branch whose members remain unpaid by the third day of the month to embark on strike.

“This is to notify the university administration that the NEC of ASUU has directed that in any case where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of every month, the affected branch should proceed on strike until such salaries are paid,” the letter read.

The FUOYE ASUU leadership stressed that the strike would be “total, indefinite, and comprehensive” until the matter is resolved, effectively grounding academic activities.
