The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has enrolled 2,370 retirees under the National Housing Fund (NHF) in Bauchi State between 2023 and 2025. The bank has also processed refunds for all registered retirees within the same period.
Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu, the Bauchi Branch Manager of FMBN, commended the participation of retirees and revealed that 18 out of the state’s 20 local government areas (LGAs) have joined the NHF scheme. The remaining two LGAs are yet to fully comply. Additionally, some local councils have secured home renovation loans through the NHF.
However, delays in disbursing the renovation loans arose due to a ₦459 million outstanding contribution from the Bauchi State Government. Despite repeated reminders, the arrears remained unpaid until a recent meeting convened by the state Commissioner for Finance and FMBN officials. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached for the government to clear the debt, paving the way for continued financial support to contributors.
Alhaji Mu’azu urged residents to take advantage of the bank’s offerings to support homeownership, emphasising that FMBN services are open to all and that the institution welcomes inquiries.
In contrast, the FMBN Gombe State branch reported that its refund operations have been fully digitised and are now managed centrally by the bank’s headquarters in Abuja. According to Branch Manager Alhaji Mohammed Saeed, the Gombe office no longer handles disbursements directly. Instead, it receives applications from retirees, verifies documentation, and forwards the details electronically to the head office for processing and payment.
Saeed added that the submission of hard copy applications has been discontinued, with all refund processes now conducted digitally to improve speed and efficiency.
