The Federal Government has urged the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to suspend its planned seven-day warning strike over welfare and staffing issues.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Muhammad Dingyadi, made the appeal during a meeting with NANNM leadership in Abuja on Wednesday.
The nurses, citing poor working conditions, inadequate staffing, and poor remuneration, had announced the strike would commence Wednesday night.
Dingyadi acknowledged the legitimacy of their grievances but encouraged the union to prioritise dialogue over industrial action.
“Strike is not the best way to resolve industrial disputes,” the minister said. “We are committed to engaging with your leadership to address the issues raised.”
Negotiations are scheduled to resume on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Health as both sides continue efforts to reach a resolution.
