The Federal Government has disbursed N8.6 billion as part of ongoing payments to pensioners under the N32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) confirmed the latest round of payments in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by its Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi. He said the payment covered 148,625 eligible retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) across various departments.
According to Ajayi, the beneficiaries include pensioners from the Police, Civil Service, Parastatals, and Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Departments.
He also noted that PTAD had earlier settled the arrears of the initial increment — ranging between 20% and 28% — also approved by the President and effective from January 2024.
Providing a breakdown, Ajayi said:
-
N5.7 billion was paid to 59,342 pensioners under the Parastatals Pensions Department (PaPD).
-
N2.3 billion was paid to 71,084 pensioners under the Civil Service Pensions Department (CSPD).
-
N310 million went to 9,579 pensioners in the Police Pensions Department (PPD).
-
N276 million was disbursed to 8,620 pensioners in the Customs, Immigration, and Correctional Service Pensions Department.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Dr. Tolulope Odunaiya, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to clearing all outstanding pension arrears.
She affirmed that the government remains focused on improving pensioners’ welfare in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
