The Federal Government has paid ₦5.12 billion in pension arrears to 90,689 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), according to the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).
Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, confirmed the payment in a statement on Monday in Abuja. He said the disbursement covered beneficiaries across the directorate’s four pension departments, in line with the government’s pledge to settle outstanding liabilities.
Ajayi explained that 8,626 pensioners in the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received ₦276.03 million for one month’s arrears. The Police Pension Department (PPD), with 9,681 pensioners, was paid ₦619.58 million for two months’ arrears.
In addition, 12,773 retirees under the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) got ₦408.73 million for one month’s arrears, while 59,609 pensioners in the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) received ₦3.81 billion for two months’ arrears.
Ajayi reaffirmed PTAD’s commitment to protecting the welfare of retirees, noting that the exercise aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure prompt payment of entitlements.
