The Federal Government, through the Office of the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Capacity Development, is set to train 1,000 unemployed youths in shoemaking and repair.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Reality Youth for Good Leadership and Support Initiative (RYGLSI), a non-governmental organisation.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Friday, RYGLSI’s Deputy Executive Director, Mr Musa Idi, disclosed that all arrangements for the two-day training had been concluded. He added that the training date would be announced soon.
According to him, the programme aims to empower young people with practical skills that can lead to self-reliance, in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The Special Assistant to the President has agreed to support the programme financially and encouraged us to proceed,” Idi said.
He explained that beneficiaries would not only receive hands-on training but also be provided with shoemaking kits to kickstart their businesses. The first phase of the programme will focus on the North-West region, covering Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
Community leaders and political stakeholders will assist in selecting the beneficiaries to ensure broad and inclusive participation.
Idi called on well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with development partners and NGOs in supporting youth empowerment and economic self-sufficiency across the country.
