FG Launches Civil Service Audit, Skills Gap Committees

The Federal Government has inaugurated two committees to conduct a service-wide personnel audit and skills gap analysis as part of reforms to modernise the civil service.

The initiative, approved under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is being led by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).

Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, in a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Eno Olotu, said the exercise aims to determine the size, structure and skills composition of the workforce.

She explained that a verified digital personnel database linked to National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) would provide accurate staff records and block leakages.

“The initiative will also identify skills gaps in critical areas such as ICT, project management, public finance and data analysis,” she said.

The audit, she added, would strengthen training programmes, enhance Human Resource Management systems through the HRMIS, and improve efficiency by eliminating redundancies.

Walson-Jack stressed that the exercise was developmental rather than punitive, noting that it was designed to reposition the civil service for future challenges.

The Steering Committee, chaired by Walson-Jack, comprises key Permanent Secretaries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, and other officials.

The Project Implementation Committee will be chaired by Dr. Danjuma Kalba, Permanent Secretary, Common Services, with senior directors, representatives of the Accountant-General’s office, the Federal Civil Service Commission, and retired officers as members.

Kalba described the initiative as “a bold reform aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” and said the project would strengthen transparency and efficiency across the federal workforce.
