The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a Group Life Assurance Scheme for federal civil servants, paramilitary personnel, and uniformed officers.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, disclosed this on Monday while briefing State House Correspondents after the sixth FEC meeting of the year.
She said the scheme provides a life insurance policy for each eligible public servant. In the event of death, their next-of-kin will receive benefits to cushion the impact of the loss.
“This approval reflects President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to the welfare of federal workers,” she stated.
The 2025/2026 Group Life Assurance Scheme covers top government functionaries including the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ministers, permanent secretaries, and staff of federal ministries and treasury-funded agencies.
Also included are personnel of paramilitary agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Walson-Jack explained that the scheme is annual, and the current approval covers the 2025/2026 policy year. The policy takes effect once premiums are paid to the designated insurance underwriters, in line with the “no premium, no cover” policy.
She said FEC approved the appointment of 17 insurance underwriters to provide cover for the scheme during the period.
