The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Bertrand Ngwu, has pledged to improve the welfare of staff at the hospital.
He made this commitment on Friday in Enugu during the formal inauguration of the hospital’s Senior Staff Association.
Commending the initiators of the association, Prof. Ngwu said workers could achieve many of their aspirations through active engagement in such groups.
“I’ve previously been a member of a staff association, and I will also register with this one,” he said.
He encouraged staff to give their best in their duties, assuring them that dedication would bring lasting benefits. “When you put your best into your work, you will not regret being part of this association,” he added.
The association’s Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ojobo, paid tribute to the efforts of past senior staff who, he said, fought tirelessly for workers’ rights and dignity.
Ojobo said the association was founded on the principles of solidarity, justice, and equity, and would focus on advancing the interests and welfare of its members. He also commended the hospital’s management for its support and cooperation.
He acknowledged the growing challenges in the global work environment, particularly those affecting workers’ wages and benefits, and assured members that the newly inaugurated seven-member executive would serve with courage and integrity.
Ojobo further urged members to remain committed and united as the association charts a path forward.
