Enugu Government Rolls Out Digital Reforms to Strengthen Civil Service Efficiency

By Mariam Aligbeh

The Enugu State Government has announced new measures to strengthen public service delivery and enhance productivity through digital transformation.

The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday in Enugu during a four-day training workshop for Administrative Officers, themed “Optimising Service Delivery and Productivity in the Digital Age.”

Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a more efficient and technology-driven civil service as part of its strategy to expand the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. He emphasised that digitalisation and ethical productivity are key drivers of this vision.

“You must work hard and embrace the new digital transformation before earning promotion. The government will not tolerate laziness or absenteeism,” Prof. Onyia warned. He commended the Head of Service, Dr. Godwin Anigbo, for organising the training aimed at equipping civil servants with digital skills to support e-governance.

In his remarks, Dr. Anigbo explained that the programme was designed to enhance professionalism, efficiency, and innovation within the public service. He said the initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of creating a “smart, agile, resilient, and reform-driven civil service” capable of driving integrated and sustainable development in Enugu State.

“The civil service remains central to the success of our key reforms,” Dr. Anigbo stated. “This training focuses on three areas: e-governance and technology adoption, effective communication and presentation, and understanding legal and ethical frameworks.”

He described the participants as “agents of change and policy enablers” who must embrace innovation and adopt a results-oriented work culture to deliver quality service to the people of Enugu State.
