Ekowe Polytechnic Calls for Dialogue as NASU Dispute Escalates

The Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State, has reiterated its willingness to resolve the ongoing labour dispute with the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) over alleged unremitted dues and denied promotions.

In a statement issued in Yenagoa, the institution’s PRO, Mr. Nimizuo Pereseigha, said the management had made several efforts to engage NASU in dialogue but received little cooperation. He clarified that the delay in dues remittance was linked to confusion over updated union memberships.

Pereseigha explained that some staff had been upgraded from NASU to ASUP but their deductions continued going to NASU. He said NASU failed to update membership data despite being asked to, unlike other unions which complied.

On promotions, Pereseigha noted that NASU members were on strike during the assessment period and were again invited to submit forms but had not done so.

NASU Chairman, Mr. Etebu Ebifiye, said the Nigeria Labour Congress had intervened and was planning a joint meeting. He condemned the dues non-remittance as a breach of labour laws and reiterated NASU’s openness to peaceful negotiation.
