Eight Years After: Edo Judiciary Workers Finally Receive Withheld Pay

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State for approving the payment of seven months’ withheld salaries owed to judiciary workers since 2015.

In a letter of appreciation issued on Thursday in Benin, JUSUN’s National President, Marwan Mustapha Adamu, described the decision as an act of fairness and empathy, noting that it had brought relief to the affected workers.

The salaries were withheld during the administration of former governor Adams Oshiomhole following a seven-month nationwide strike by judiciary workers in 2015, which was part of a push for judicial autonomy.

Adamu said the governor’s gesture had restored workers’ confidence in the state government and underscored its commitment to welfare and industrial harmony.

“The release of the withheld salaries will not only ease the financial burden on our members but also strengthen their trust in government institutions,” he said.

He added that the decision would boost productivity and improve service delivery within the judiciary.

JUSUN further pledged loyalty and continued support for Governor Okpebholo’s administration, describing the move as a demonstration of responsiveness and commitment to workers’ welfare.
